Motorists heading into Chelmsford are being warned that two city centre car parks will be temporarily closed on consecutive days this week.

Baddow Road car park will be closed all day on Wednesday, September 23, before Meadows Surface car park closes all day on Thursday, September 24.

Drivers who regularly use either car park will therefore need to make alternative parking arrangements.

Baddow Road car park closed Wednesday

Baddow Road car park, postcode CM2 7PJ, is a council-run surface car park with 250 spaces, including six disabled spaces.

The car park normally operates 24 hours a day and offers a mixture of short and longer-stay parking, making the temporary closure particularly worth noting for commuters and people spending the day in Chelmsford.

The car park will be unavailable throughout Wednesday, September 23.

Meadows Surface car park closed Thursday

The following day, Thursday, September 24, the council-run Meadows Surface car park will be closed for the day.

Located off Can Bridge Way, postcode CM2 0WP, Meadows Surface also has 250 spaces, including nine disabled spaces. It is normally open around the clock and is particularly convenient for the southern end of the city centre and The Meadows.

Drivers should be aware that there are several different car parks carrying the Meadows name in Chelmsford.

The closure relates specifically to the Chelmsford City Council-owned Meadows Surface car park accessed from Can Bridge Way. It should not be confused with the privately operated Meadows car parks or the Meadows Retail multi-storey.

Alternative parking in Chelmsford

A number of other city centre car parks will remain available for drivers affected by the closures.

Chelmsford City Council operates alternatives including High Chelmer, Parkway, Riverside, Townfield Street, Waterloo Lane and Moulsham Street, although prices, opening hours and maximum stays vary between locations.

Drivers travelling into Chelmsford on either day may want to allow a little extra time to find a space, particularly during the busiest periods.

There is also separate work currently affecting Fairfield Road car park, where resurfacing is taking place between September 21 and October 11. The council says sections of that car park will be closed during the work and parking spaces will be very limited.

Anyone planning a journey into the city centre can check the latest locations, charges and parking information on the Chelmsford City Council website before travelling.
