Chelmsford City head to Chesham United looking to maintain unbeaten start
Chelmsford City return to National League South action this weekend when they travel to Chesham United, hoping to build on their impressive FA Cup victory at Brackley Town.
The Clarets visit The Meadow on Saturday, October 10, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm, as Mark Cooper’s side look to continue their unbeaten competitive start to the 2026/27 season.
Chelmsford head into the fixture in confident mood after securing a 2-0 away victory over Brackley Town last Saturday, booking their place in the Fourth Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup.
Clarets looking to turn draws into victories
Although Chelmsford have proved difficult to beat this season, a series of draws in the National League South has prevented them from turning their unbeaten record into a stronger points return.
Their most recent league outing ended in a goalless draw against Horsham at the Dunmow Group Community Stadium on September 26.
Both sides struck the woodwork during that encounter, with Chelmsford unable to find a breakthrough despite creating opportunities.
However, the following weekend brought a welcome return to winning ways in the FA Cup.
Brackley victory provides confidence boost
Chelmsford produced an impressive second-half performance to defeat Brackley Town 2-0 at St James Park on October 3.
After a goalless opening period, Denzelle Olopade broke the deadlock in the 69th minute with a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Just four minutes later, Nathan Ralph doubled Chelmsford’s advantage, scoring his first goal for the club.
The victory secured another away success for Cooper’s side and extended their unbeaten competitive run.
It also earned the Clarets an FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying tie away to Wimborne Town on Saturday, October 17.
Before that cup fixture, however, Chelmsford’s attention returns to collecting points in the National League South.
Chesham United provide next challenge
Saturday’s opponents Chesham United will be looking to make home advantage count when the two sides meet at The Meadow.
For Chelmsford, the challenge will be to maintain their defensive resilience while finding the goals needed to turn tight league encounters into victories.
Cooper’s side have demonstrated their ability to compete away from home, with the recent cup successes at Canvey Island and Brackley Town providing further evidence of their resilience on the road.
With another important FA Cup fixture approaching, Saturday’s league encounter also offers an opportunity for Chelmsford to maintain momentum.
