Chelmsford man jailed for more than six years for sexual offences against teenage girl

A 51-year-old man from Boreham near Chelmsford has been jailed for six years and eight months after admitting a series of sexual offences against a teenage girl.

James Eves, of Waltham Road, Boreham, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday 10 September following an investigation by Cheshire Police.

Eves had previously pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child, sexual assault of a child by penetration and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Police investigation

The investigation began in February 2025 when Eves attended Widnes Police Station and reported that he had recently sexually assaulted a teenage girl.

Officers subsequently contacted the victim, who disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted by Eves.

An investigation was launched and Eves was later charged with the offences.

Following his guilty pleas, he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where he was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.

Further restrictions imposed

In addition to his prison sentence, Eves will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order.

Cheshire Police welcomed the sentence and praised the victim for the courage she showed during the investigation.

The force said specialist officers had supported her throughout the case and expressed hope that the conclusion of proceedings would help her begin to move forward.

Although the investigation was conducted by Cheshire Police and the case was heard at Liverpool Crown Court, Eves is from Boreham in the Chelmsford area.
