FA Cup weekend awaits as Chelmsford City travel to Canvey Island

FA Cup football is on the agenda for Chelmsford City this weekend as the Clarets make the trip to Canvey Island for an all-Essex cup tie.

Chelmsford will visit Canvey Island on Saturday 19 September in the Second Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

The match gives Clarets supporters the chance to make a relatively short trip across Essex as City temporarily put their National League South campaign to one side and begin their latest FA Cup adventure.

All-Essex clash in the FA Cup

Saturday's fixture will see Chelmsford City face familiar opposition, with the two clubs having already met during the summer.

The Clarets travelled to Canvey Island for a pre-season friendly on 14 July and returned home with a 1-0 victory.

There will be considerably more at stake when the sides meet again this weekend, with a place in the next qualifying round of the FA Cup awaiting the winners.

Chelmsford enter the competition at the Second Round Qualifying stage because of their position in the National League system.

Clarets head into cup action unbeaten

City have made themselves particularly difficult to beat during the opening weeks of their National League South campaign.

Their most recent league outing saw them draw 1-1 away to Hampton & Richmond Borough at Beveree Stadium, extending their unbeaten start to the season.

That followed an entertaining 3-3 draw against Dorking Wanderers and another 1-1 draw at home to Salisbury.

The attention now switches from collecting league points to progressing in one of English football's most famous competitions.

Saturday afternoon trip for Chelmsford supporters

The Essex derby provides an attractive Saturday afternoon option for Chelmsford football supporters, particularly given the relatively short journey to Canvey Island.

The match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 19 September.

For the players, the objective will be straightforward — overcome their Essex neighbours and put Chelmsford City's name into the hat for the next round of the FA Cup.

And with the two clubs separated by divisions but already familiar with each other following their summer meeting, Saturday promises a very different test from City's recent National League South fixtures.
